Doi Suthep

Chiang Mai, 7/4/11

Doi Suthep is a giant golden temple that sits on top a mountain overlooking Chiang Mai. Gemma, Claire, and I climb up 200 steps to visit late in the afternoon right as the sun is about to set. The center of the temple is a large pagoda, covered in what looks like gold tin foil. It almost seems as if we could knock it down with a heavy blow.

The temple has an ominious feeling due to the complete lack of visitors but mostly because of the two dozen monks chanting in one of the pagodas, whose echo is reverberating throughout the entire complex.

If this is mom, I wonder what dad looks like
